The American Astronautical Society (AAS) recognizes AAS corporate member Blue Origin on the successful crewed flight of their New Shepard spacecraft.

“AAS congratulates the entire team at Blue Origin on this significant accomplishment,” said AAS Executive Director Jim Way. “We witnessed history today. The future of spaceflight is truly exciting and holds incredible potential.”

Blue Origin’s New Shepard mission sent founder Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark, Mercury 13 aviator Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Oliver Daemon to suborbital space today from the company’s launch facility in West Texas. The flight rose to over 350,000 feet after which the booster returned for landing and the passenger capsule descended and landed gently in the desert. The successful launch ushers in a new commercial space tourism industry which will offer regular access to space for a broad population segment.

As a Corporate Member of AAS, Blue Origin helps support the continued science and exploration of space. AAS Members enjoy exclusive benefits and opportunities to connect with others in the space industry.
