AAS Congratulates New NASA Administrator Bill Nelson

The American Astronautical Society (AAS) is pleased to congratulate former Florida Senator Bill Nelson on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the 14th NASA Administrator.

“AAS has a proud history of working with NASA’s leadership to educate the space community about NASA’s programs and the pivotal role space plays in 21st Century life” said AAS President, Alan DeLuna. “We wish Administrator Nelson much success in his new role and we look forward to working with him and his team to support the advancement of NASA’s programs and fostering STEM education.”

Administrator Nelson brings a depth of experience and accomplishment to this position based on his service in both the House and the Senate and his experience as a Payload Specialist on Space Shuttle Columbia’s STS-61-C mission in January 1986.

His role as the Senate Commerce Committee Chair was pivotal to the NASA Authorization Acts of 2010 and 2017 which have created the programs now nearing fruition to return Americans to the moon and eventually on to Mars and other destinations in our solar system.
