Fellow Nominations

“Fellows shall be members of the Society who have made significant scientific, engineering, academic and/or management contributions to astronautics and space.  In addition, contributions to AAS will be considered.”

Only current AAS Members will be considered for AAS Fellows.

Nominations will be accepted from any current AAS member.

No nominations received after the deadline will be considered for election in the current year.  Late nominations and nominees not elected will be retained for consideration the next year.

The number of Fellows elected each year shall not exceed 1% of the total membership, and, more typically, should be 4 to 6.

Nominations must include the following:

Cover sheet [MS Word file] with information on nominee, nominator, proposed citation and list of reference letters.

Nomination form (one page only) to include:

  • Nominee’s contributions that justify election to Fellow.
  • Impact of the nominee’s contributions to the aerospace/astronautics profession.
  • Nominee’s contributions to AAS and other professional societies.

Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) of the nominee (no more than two pages), with no more than a one-page list of patents or publications.  C.V. should include references to positions held in, or other service to, AAS or other space-related professional societies.

Letters of reference (at least four, but no more than five).  Three of the references must be AAS members, and at least two must also be AAS Fellows.  It is the responsibility of the nominator to ensure that the supporting letters reach the AAS Office by the published deadline, which will be set as one month after the deadline for nomination packages.  These letters should address the criteria for Fellow selection described above.

Please send nominations and supporting letters to aas@astronautical.org (preferred) with subject line “AAS Fellow Nomination” or mail to:
